DJAMY LAYONE SINGER/SONG WRITER ''QUICK CHAT'' INTERVIEW
Mohamed BAMBA, aka Djamy Layone, is an Ivorian-Belgian multidisciplinary artist. Based in Liège, Belgium, for over ten years he has explored the boundaries between sound, matter, and identity through an artistic practice that combines music, visual arts, and living poetry.
Fueled by a cultural mix that he claims as a creative force, his approach is both introspective and committed, rooted in a desire for transmission, intercultural dialogue, and memorial restoration.
A self-taught musician, Djamy Layone has developed his own musical style, called Wara Muzik, a blend of R&B, rap, reggae dancehall, traditional West African rhythms, and intuitive and ambient electronic music. The messages, sung in French, English, and Malinke vernacular languages, touch on positive themes such as love, peace, resilience, courage, and unity, suitable for both young and adult audiences.
At the same time, his visual works—canvases, assemblages, and relic objects—use salvaged materials, earth, textiles, and metal to explore colonial memory, exile, spirituality, and the connection to ancestry. The artist notably uses symbols from African spiritual and social heritage. He often works in live performance, combining painting and music on stage. The Press Kit includes a brief portfolio of the artist—seven of his sixty paintings.
